Travel company Touristlink has launched of a selection of packages aimed at travellers seeking to visit central India’s hill stations during the monsoon season.
On offer are trips to
Pachmarhi, Mahabaleshwar and Lonavala, all locations that are awash with
greenery during the rainy season and which provide hiking trails, dramatic
waterfalls and visits to ancient forts.
With their cooler
climate, the hill stations were originally a favourite of European colonialists
who were keen to escape the summer heat.
The British Raj, and
in particular the British Army, founded around 50 of the more than 80 hill
stations in the Indian subcontinent. The remainder were built by various Indian
rulers over the centuries as places of leisure or even as permanent capitals.
Today these upland
towns primarily serve a growing domestic clientele looking to escape both the
heat and the city crowds for the weekend.
Touristlink’s packages
to Pachmarhi, Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar are aimed at weekenders looking to
spend between three and four days.
The company is managed
by GotripIndia, the developers of visitusa.com and the parent company of
hotelkhoj.com.
