Top cigar bars in London

With winter closing in on London, the appeal of the city’s cigar bars becomes all the more defined. Here are four of the latest openings.

The Edward Sahakian Cigar Shop and Sampling Lounge can be found within the precincts of the Bulgari Hotel and Residences in Knightsbridge.

Its oak humidors contain some of the finest cigars available from Sahakian’s collection at Davidoff of London. Guests can purchase and enjoy in the adjacent Sampling Lounge.

On offer are the likes of the Cuban Davidoff Dom Perignon; Partagas No.4 Reserve and Romeo Y Julieta Churchill.

The Sampling Lounge can seat around 20 customers and is open Monday to Saturday midday to 11.30pm and Sunday midday to 11.00pm.

Tel: + 44 (0) 207 151 1011.

The May Fair Hotel’s cigar room contains a fireplace, day beds and welcoming armchairs. There are 40 varieties of cigars (by Hunters and Frankau) on offer plus an impresive drinks list (Armagnacs, Cognacs and Whiskies).

Pairings can be recommended by the in-room cigar sommeliers. There are also monthly cigar and spirit masterclasses.

A minimum spend requirement of £20 is required.

The Cigar Room is open daily from 5pm to 12am.

The Belgraves & Thompson hotel has an outdoor cigarden, a garden terrace with a retractable glass roof and extensive cigar menu.

Also worth a look is the courtyard of the Corinthia Hotel, complete with under-floor heating and fireplaces and 100-year-old Japanese Maple Trees (above). In addition to a wide selection of cigars it offers an extensive drinks list.

The Wellesley Hotel (due to open 1 December) will feature the UK’s biggest collection of cigars sold on an individual basis. The hotel’s Crystal Bar will house a Whisky and Cognac wall that should provide an appealing accompaniment or two to the cigars on offer.
