Bunnahabhain unveils 40-year-old Islay malt whisky

Islay-based whisky distillery Bunnahabhain is to release a one-off rare single malt that has lain undiscovered for four decades.

Only 750 bottles will be released and each will be numbered and signed.

Bunnahabhain says the whisky matured undiscovered for 40 years until master distiller Ian MacMillan discovered the casks listed in the distillery ledgers.

‘It was an exhilarating moment to stumble on such a special find,’ he said. ‘There are very few 40-year-old Islays.’

This aged offering is likely to appeal to collectors of rare malt whiskies across the world.

Each bottle will be presented in an oak gift box containing a secret compartment that reveals hidden designs that supposedly tell the tale of a ‘journey of discovery’.

Bunnahabhain is produced by Burn Stewart Distillers and is exported to over 30 countries. Its manufacturer states it is the only non-peated Islay malt.
